This summer, for most people in Lin city, was hot, peaceful, and ordinary.

As for Xu Xu and Ji Bai, their lives were sweet and involved more throbbing feelings.  

As for Ye Zi Xiao, he stood on top of the Yip Group at the age of twenty. But at the moment, what remained of the Yip group was only one that was entangled, chaotic, hurriedly retreating and embattled.

After the Yip case broke out, the stock price plummeted and continued to go down daily for many days.

At the same time, Zhang Shi Yong aggressively announced the divorce with Ye Qiao while separating from the Yip Group, and started a new company. He also swept away with him all the businesses, real estate teams, and customers; half of Yip group.

Suppliers and distributors, whether instigated by Zhang Shi Yong or eager to protect themselves, one by one, had terminated all contracts. The large capital of the group suddenly ruptured.

They went to a restaurant located in the shopping center.  

It was rush hour, there were many people so they had to wait for a while. The  dining room they walked into had a spacious dark red sofa and soft lightning.  The bright night-lights were reflected in the windows, quiet and very heart warming.

Xu Xu sat on the sofa and received a menu from the waiter. She had flipped a few pages, when the sofa space beside her slightly sunk, a familiar warm air, close yet far, surrounded her.

The water of the Mekong River was flowing rapidly, green trees looming on both sides of the river.

On the highway behind the mountain, a military vehicle braked all of the sudden, a number of armed soldiers jumped out of the car and rushed into the jungle.  After a while, they had surrounded the hillside area.

Early in the morning, heavy rain loudly crashed on the windows, the whole town was shrouded in the gloomy mist.

In the conference room of the district police station, all the police officers sat around the long black table, everybody was very serious.

The operation, this time, was very productive. Within few days, the police had arrested more than thirty suspects and rescued more than forty victims. However, “Brother Lu” was a needle in the haystack, still missing without a trace.

Because JI Bai was so tired, he fell asleep and had a dream.

In the dream, the sun was dazzling, he was lazily sitting under the shade of a  willow tree drooping by a pond, and beside his feet was a fishing rod. A slim girl was squatting on the ground with her back to him. She had her head bent down low, he had no idea what she was doing, just a noisy banging sound could be heard.

After a while, the girl suddenly turned around and threw a big fish with glittering silver scales towards him: “Master, the investigation has been hard on you, eat the fish to nourish yourself.”

When a Snail Loves by Ding Mo: Part 46

Dusk was falling slowly; the streetlights illuminated one by one.

The town residents liked to take a walk after dinner, waves of people walked back and forth the hotel entrance. The hotel owner moved a chair to sit by the door and ate red pumpkin seeds while happily chatting with people. Everything looked calm and relaxed.

Ji Bai, Su Mu, and Yao Meng were sitting in the car, staring at the road ahead. At the newspaper kiosks and bustling supermarket door not far from there, several police officer dressed in casual clothing were quietly waiting.

This is actually the novel that I read before When a Snail loves by Ding Mo. The reason why I picked When a Snail Loves instead of When He comes, Close Your Eyes is because I like the female lead in WASL a tad better. I’m not saying Yao Yao in WHCCYE is not a great but I guess Xu Xu is just more of my preference.
