微微一笑很倾城 (Just One Smile Is Very Alluring)(Review)

alluring

I read this C-novel around 3 years ago when I was still really into online games, probably as much as the Wei Wei in this novel so this novel got me interested right away. Because of my addiction to online games, I was totally biased and loved it so much. Thinking about it now, I don’t think it’s that great of a story because it’s a bit cliche but the Gu Man did a great job because she made a typical story interesting with the small details and the online game setting.

The main character is Wei Wei who is beautiful and smart. She really addicted to Dreams of Jianghu, so much that she’s one of the top 10 players. Like she would stay up all night to fight bosses and such.

The story started off with her being dumped by her in-game husband. Why? (she’s beautiful and smart) Well, the thing is that everyone thinks that she’s actually a guy playing a girl character since she’s so strong and good, unlike the usual girls (I totally don’t agree). So the husband dumped her to marry another girl who’s “beautiful”. (Too bad, she’s actually, even more, beautiful, I meant she’s famous beauty in her department)

So the main guy is Nai He Xiong appeared out of nowhere after and proposes to her and he’s the ranked number 1 player in the game. Although skeptical but she still accepted him.

While she doesn’t know his identity, he actually knows hers.

Eventually they meet, she comes to find out that he’s actually one of the popular guys in school.

Overall the story isn’t different and is cliche, overdone. The main male character is the typical over the top smart, handsome, can do everything.

I like Wei Wei though because she’s cool and into online games. She’s really funny too. And supposedly she has huge boobs (lol)

Their relationship is just adorable and cute, funny moments that Gu Man wrote that made the story.

And I’m really into novels with college settings. I guess it’s relatable because I’m in college, myself. Also, the game setting was done really well, most gamers would nod in approval but you aren’t a gamer then it might be a bit confusing.

It’s a sweet and fun read. No big obstacles and no tears, you probably get cavity though because it’s so sweet.

  1. Thanks for the review!
Haha, it is indeed a sweet novel! I really liked wei wei’s character! Quite interesting, she’s straightforward and cool! For xiao nai, he is really too perfect for me. There are only a few occasions where he loses his calm

    • I hate typing on the phone—!
Ahem, let me continue, yes, i would have preferred if xiao nai showed more of his weaknesses, or imperfections in front of wei wei. A number of them were only known to the reader, which wasn’t much fun for me, but still amusing…
Still, it’s an interesting novel with a female gamer. It’s a ‘finding love online’ novel haha.

      • Ohh yeah i know what you mean gf lol, Oh yes, I mean he’s a college student, I feel like he should have some childish sides too… I guess his biggest flaw was how he fell in love with her lol. Oh yes, I thought it feels to find someone in game and such. I know it isn’t rare but it made me curious how it goes. xD

      • Yeah!-high fives- he is way too perfect, right? Lol he didn’t have enough childish sides…and that flaw isn’t enough of a flaw—! Wei wei was really interesting though

      • That’s right—!i loved wei wei’s character! Would’ve loved to see more of her, then just her and xiao nai moments..i also really liked her interactions with xiao nai’s friends, hilarious! To me, she acted more like herself with them, which was great! With xiao nai, i feel she was a bit timid and just went with the flow a lot…-shakes head-

    • Yeah it’s funny how I changed from really like the perfect male lead to wanting a less perfect. I guess now that I’m older (lol) my thoughts are different, it’s hard to be in love with a too perfect character because just too unrealistic and hard to relate to? I just can’t imagine it now.

      • Yeah, it used to be waiting for a prince charming, but now, you just want someone with a good character and who reciprocates love, but isn’t perfect, ahaha!

  2. Its one of my favourites! And it was one of the first few chinese HE novels I read! Dreams of Jianghu has done a great job translating it! At first I was skeptical thinking that since the novel slightly portrayed an RPG theme, it wouldn’t interest me… but then it was an awesome novel, and it got stuck to my heart… 😻😻😻😻

  3. This was one of the first chinese novels I read and I really enjoyed it. I especially liked her roommates and family friends. Both the hero and heroine might have been pretty lovely and smart but their friendships make them complete. And, man, I would love to play that game.
